Understanding Weight Limits

Each airline has specific weight limits for carry-on and checked luggage. It's important to understand these limits to ensure smooth travel and avoid extra charges. AirJIT uses these limits to calculate the space you can offer.

Available Space Calculation

To determine your available luggage space:

  1. Total Allowed Weight: This is the maximum weight permitted by your airline.

    • Carry-On Luggage: Typically up to 10 kg (22 lbs).
    • Checked Luggage: Usually up to 23 kg (50 lbs) for economy class and up to 32 kg (70 lbs) for business and first class.
  2. Personal Item Weight: Deduct the weight of your personal items, such as a backpack, purse, or laptop bag, usually not exceeding 5 kg (11 lbs).

  3. Available Space: The remaining weight after subtracting your personal item weight from the total allowed weight.

Example:

  • Total Allowed Weight: 23 kg (50 lbs)
  • Personal Item Weight: 5 kg (11 lbs)
  • Available Space: 18 kg (39 lbs)

Booked Space and Left Space

Once parcels are booked:

  • Booked Space: The weight of all parcels you have agreed to carry.
  • Left Space: The remaining available weight after subtracting the booked space from your total available space.

Example:

  • Available Space: 18 kg (39 lbs)
  • Booked Space: 10 kg (22 lbs)
  • Left Space: 8 kg (17 lbs)

AirJIT Weight Calculation

AirJIT calculates the available luggage space based on either volumetric weight or mass, whichever is higher. This ensures that you can accurately determine how much space you can offer to shippers.

Volumetric Weight Formula

Volumetric weight is calculated as: Volumetric Weight (kg) = Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) ÷ 5000

Ensure you measure your luggage dimensions accurately to determine the correct volumetric weight.

Setting Your Available Space or Weight

When listing your travel on AirJIT, specify the weight and dimensions of your luggage accurately:

  1. Start Listing your travel on AirJIT.
  2. Once you added the flights, AirJIT will define your trips.
  3. Calculate manually your total allowed space minus your personal space.
  4. Enter the minimum available weight for each trip.
  5. Track your booked space and left space as parcels are booked.
